Switching from AnkiHub

Malleus has moved from AnkiHub to AnkiCollab, a free add-on that downloads the deck and keeps it up to date. The Malleus add-on moves your deck across for you.

Your cards, progress and review history are kept

Your existing cards are moved into the new deck with all their reviews and scheduling. Nothing needs to be re-learnt.

1. Get the latest Malleus add-on

  • Already have it? Update it: Tools → Add-ons → Check for Updates, then restart Anki.
  • Don't have it? Tools → Add-ons → Get Add-ons…, paste the code 620451841, click OK and restart Anki.

2. Move your deck

When Anki opens you'll see Malleus has moved to AnkiCollab. Click Move my deck and follow the steps. It takes about 10–30 minutes, mostly waiting for the download, so use a reliable internet connection and keep Anki open.

Closed the message by accident?

Open it again any time from Tools → Malleus Deck Setup (AnkiCollab)…

Here's what the steps do:

  1. Install AnkiCollab if you don't have it yet. Anki restarts once and the setup comes back by itself.
  2. Sign in to AnkiCollab. AnkiCollab needs a free account. New to it? Click Create a free account first. Signing in shows a short code: click Approve in your browser and Anki signs in by itself.
  3. Sync and back up. Your computer is brought up to date with AnkiWeb and a backup is made, so you can undo everything if something goes wrong.
  4. Leave AnkiHub. AnkiHub stops updating Malleus. AnkiHub stays installed for any other decks you get from it.
  5. Set aside your old deck. It's renamed to Malleus Clinical Medicine (old copy) to make room for the new deck.
  6. Download Malleus. AnkiCollab downloads the deck and moves your existing cards into it, progress and all.
  7. Save to AnkiWeb. Leaving AnkiHub changes the Malleus card types, so AnkiWeb needs a fresh copy of this computer's collection. The setup uploads it for you.

Share your review statistics?

Once the deck is in, AnkiCollab asks whether to share your review statistics. Please say yes. They're anonymous, and they show the Malleus team which cards people struggle with, so we know what to fix first.

3. Update your other devices

The next time you sync on your phone or another computer, Anki asks whether to upload or download. Choose Download so it gets this computer's copy.

Don't choose Upload on your other devices

Upload would replace the new deck on AnkiWeb with that device's old copy.

4. Tidy up

The last page of the setup lists your old deck:

  • Empty — all its cards moved across. Click Delete this empty deck.
  • Still has some cards — these didn't move to the new deck. They might be cards AnkiHub had marked as deleted, or cards you made yourself. Click Show these cards, keep any you want, and delete the rest.

If you weren't signed in to AnkiHub, the setup can't unsubscribe you on the AnkiHub website. Do it yourself at ankihub.net so the subscription doesn't carry on elsewhere. If Malleus was your only reason for AnkiHub, you can also cancel your AnkiHub plan.

Your Personal Notes and Missed Questions fields and the leech tag are protected on AnkiCollab too, so deck updates never overwrite them.

"Malleus is coming from two places"

If you've already added Malleus in AnkiCollab but AnkiHub is still updating it as well, you'll see Malleus is coming from two places. Both add-ons updating the same cards clash, so click Fix this now. It stops AnkiHub updating Malleus and leaves your cards and review history exactly as they are.
