Get the Deck

Malleus is shared through AnkiCollab, a free add-on that downloads the deck and keeps it up to date. You don't need to set AnkiCollab up yourself: the Malleus add-on does it for you, one step at a time.

Already getting Malleus through AnkiHub?

Follow Switching from AnkiHub instead. It moves your existing deck across and keeps all your progress.

1. Install the Malleus add-on

  1. In Anki, click Tools → Add-ons → Get Add-ons…
  2. Paste the code 620451841 and click OK
  3. Restart Anki

2. Let it set everything up

When Anki opens again you'll see Get the Malleus deck. Click Set it up and follow the steps. It takes about 10–30 minutes, mostly waiting for the download, so use a reliable internet connection.

Closed the message by accident?

Open it again any time from Tools → Malleus Deck Setup (AnkiCollab)…

Here's what the steps do:

  1. Install AnkiCollab. The add-on downloads it for you. Anki then needs to restart once: click Close Anki, open Anki again, and the setup comes back by itself.
  2. Sign in to AnkiCollab. AnkiCollab needs a free account to download the deck.
    • New to AnkiCollab? Click Create a free account, sign up on the website, then come back to Anki.
    • Click Sign in. Anki shows a short code: click Approve in your browser and Anki signs in by itself. There's no password to type into Anki.
  3. Download Malleus. AnkiCollab downloads the cards, then the images. Keep Anki open until it's done.

Share your review statistics?

Once the deck is in, AnkiCollab asks whether to share your review statistics. Please say yes. They're anonymous, and they show the Malleus team which cards people struggle with, so we know what to fix first.

3. You're all set

Your Personal Notes and Missed Questions fields and the leech tag are protected, so deck updates never overwrite them. Use them freely for your own notes, links to lectures, screenshots of questions you got wrong (e.g. from eMedici or AMBOSS), and cards Anki flags as leeches.

  • Updates arrive whenever you open Anki. You can also check any time with AnkiCollab → Update Decks.
  • Your phone gets the deck and its updates through your normal AnkiWeb sync, so sync your computer first and then your phone. AnkiCollab itself only runs on the computer.

Setting it up yourself, without the Malleus add-on
  1. Install AnkiCollab: Tools → Add-ons → Get Add-ons…, code 1957538407, then restart Anki
  2. Sign in: AnkiCollab → Login
  3. Subscribe: AnkiCollab → Manage Subscriptions, paste the key malleus-au-nz and click Add
